The X-HUB TOKYO program hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is a project with the goal of supporting the global activities of startups within Tokyo as well as stimulating the city's economy through interaction with globally active overseas startups.

In the Wrap-up Event, Dr. Yukihiro Maru, Founder of Leave a Nest. Co., Ltd. and instigator of one of Asia's largest startup ecosystems who envisions to solve the world's social issues with deep-tech will provide keynote speech titled "The importance of expanding overseas and the reasons for foreign startups to enter Japan" on why startups should consider expanding abroad. Toshihiko Honkura, partner at i-nest capital, inc., will then give a speech titled "How to become a global startup" and speak on funding and business collaboration, founding branches overseas, and multinational HR management from VC’s perspective.

In the Achievement Session, startups that have taken part in the "OUTBOUND PROGRAM," an overseas expansion support program for startups in Tokyo, and the "INBOUND PROGRAM," an expansion support program for overseas startups in Tokyo, will present the benefits and outcome of the programs.

We welcome not only startups, but also supporters and institutions to join us in this event!

Dr. Maru has established Leave a Nest while he was in the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo, with his fellow undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering. Its core business is developing and delivering advanced science workshops for schools. Leave a Nest runs “Knowledge Manufacturing” industry that combines technologies or knowledges from various fields in science. He as an initiator of the biggest Deep-tech Venture ecosystem in Asia, tackles to solve issues in global scale by digging deep issues in every part of the world. He has been also involved in launching various startups including Euglena Co., Ltd. He has also appointed as Chief Research&Development Officer of Euglena Co., Ltd., and as Representative Director of Real Tech Holdings Co., Ltd.

Toshihiko Honkura
Partner i-nest capital, inc.

Toshihiko Honkura, currently residing in the US, invests in and supports globally oriented deep tech companies at i-nest capital, inc.. He has engaged in genome analytics research as a specially-appointed research assistant at the University of Tokyo prior to his career in bridging R&D and business. After working at a Japanese securities firm, McKinsey & Company and the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, he established Quantum Biosystems, Inc. to develop innovative DNA sequencers based on technology from Osaka University by establishing a R&D base in Silicon Valley in partnership with a semiconductor company and selling the research results to a major US company. He graduated from the University of Tokyo and holds an MBA from Columbia University.
