#4 Overseas Expansion Seminar
Learning from the world’s largest innovation city
~How startups can expand to “Silicon Valley”~

The X-HUB TOKYO program hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is a project with the goal of supporting the global activities of startups within Tokyo as well as stimulating the city's economy through interaction with globally active overseas startups.
The Overseas Expansion Seminar is composed of five sessions total, and is targeted at startups aiming to expand their businesses overseas as well as members of supporting organizations that are considering collaboration with overseas startups. In these seminars, we will share (1) The characteristics of ecosystems by area, and (2) Knowledge necessary for overseas expansion.

#4 Overseas Expansion Seminar focuses on Silicon Valley. In the seminar, we present the characteristics and charms of Silicon Valley market.
In the first half of the event, Ms. Risa Ishii, Japanese Partnerships Director of Plug and Play Tech Center, will be invited to share an overview and the latest information of the ecosystems in Silicon Valley.
In addition, as a senior success company, Mr. Osamu Yamada, General Manager, Organization Strategy (Former Executive Vice President) of Cybozu, Inc., will be invited to talk about the reality of doing business in Silicon Valley.
Later in the event we will invite Mr. Takashi Kato, Partner and US Office Representative of Global Brain Corporation, to talk about the strategies that startups aiming to expand to Silicon Valley should know.

We welcome participation not only from members of startups, but also from individuals and members of organizations that support them!

Ms. Risa Ishii
Plug and Play Tech Center Director, Japanese Partnerships

As a director at Plug and Play Tech Center, one of the world’s largest accelerator / VC, Ms Ishii is engaged in cross-industry corporate innovation activities, including startup collaboration and investments for 70+ Japanese major corporations. She is also a speaker at Stanford University’s SPICE program and an advisor at an educational NPO to increase the number of future entrepreneurs who aspire to expand globally. After graduating from a US high school, Ms. Ishii graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University.

Mr. Osamu Yamada
Cybozu, Inc. General Manager, Organization Strategy (Former Executive Vice President)

With over 20 years executive leadership experience in finance, HR, and administration at the #1 collaboration and office solutions provider in Japan, Osamu is the CEO of kintone, a San Francisco-based industry leader in Enterprise Application Platform as a Service (aPaaS). He has led and contributed to some of the most innovative discussions in IT and the future of work at venues such as Gartner and Harvard Business Review. Osamu is an internationally recognized expert on progressive company/work culture with insight into how innovative HR policies can have a transformative impact on a company’s long-term success.

Mr. Takashi Kato
Global Brain Corporation Partner and US Office Representative

After graduating from Keio University, Mr. Kato entered Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. After that, he built his career at IT corporations including Amazon, and Microsoft as a Market lead for new technologies and services. Mr. Kato joined Global Brain in 2013 and has engaged in investment activities mainly in the AdTech field. In 2019, Mr. Kato moved to the United States and was appointed to his current position.
